Garageband by Andy White
CD review

Andy White
The reviewers hand book, if such a publication were to exist, would require journalists to be objective, selective and unbiased. These rules are difficult to follow when writing about an artist whom you have known personally since his childhood. Andy White, the Belfast raised socially political and poetic songwriter had his first hit Religious Persuasion, released on Stiff records, in 1985, a decade later Andy was the A in the band ALT with Tim Finn and Liam O Maonlai. Now living outside Melbourne his 12th CD was composed on an Apple Mac computer in only 14 days, recorded in various studios world wide and mixed by the legendary John Leckie (Pink Floyd and Radiohead) in Correggio Italy. Garageband is a combination of Andy’s Apple Mac, singing and diverse musical talents, together with special help from singer Monique Brumby plus various other gifted musicians along the way. Garageband was a journey which has taken Andy in some unexpected directions and to new musical heights.
There is a New Orleans feel to I Got A Number Off You with its boogie woogie piano and gospel backing vocals while No Way Out also rocks with his distorted Lou Reed style vocals. Someone is a protest song which starts with talking lyrics and skilfully builds into a multi layered orchestral/electronic track while the very original Letter From T blends moody music with a girl called Torri reading a letter to Andy who then sings Don't Choose The Wrong Way as his reply. The Capital Of Now is new territory for Andy with its infectious electronic beat set to lyrics describing past memories, Garageband will be a landmark in Andy’s career.
